Thermal Recovery Surveillance (building a Practical Surveill

Thermal steam floods, cyclic steam stimulation, steam assisted gravity drainage in heavy oil plays rely on a heat delivery transport to the reservoir. This is usually done by injection steam or hot water.

Effective thermal surveillance and tracking of heat placement are indeed vital for optimizing operational efficiency and maximizing rates/recovery. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Heat      Delivery Mechanisms: Injecting hot fluids, primarily steam, is the      main method for delivering heat to the reservoir. Surveillance methods along      horizontal or vertical wells as well as 4D seismic and temperature observation      wells is important
  2. Surveillance      and Tracking: Monitoring temperature, pressure,  chemical and production/injection data      and therefore sweep efficiency helps us build a mental model. There      has been a lot of field data that has demonstrated new techniques for      tracking steam movement in reservoir as well as wellbore entry and exit.
  3. Operational      Practices: The design and field operation of surveillance methods are      critical. Implementing effective surveillance techniques can      help in real-time decision-making and improve the overall performance of      thermal recovery projects3.
  4. Data Integration: Integrating data from various      sources, such as production, injection, and geological data, is necessary      for a comprehensive understanding of the reservoir’s behavior.
  5. Real-Time      Decision Making: Utilizing real-time data allows for more responsive      and adaptive management of the thermal recovery process.

    Typical Questions in Thermal Projects

I have early breakthrough in wells do I throttle breakthrough wells

How do I determine if steam breakthrough has occurred and what should my production performance be?

Why are some of my wells, poor performers?

Despite heavy steam stimulation I can’t get a few wells to respond to steamflood?

Should I do infill wells? How
